SR4 Transmission up to 150m

Short range 40G over multimode (50/125) fibre

QSFP+ SR4 transceivers are hot-pluggable modules for 40Gbp/s Ethernet over multimode (50/125) fibre using a wavelength of 850nm. These transceivers are widely used across short and mid-range data centre and enterprise networks.

40GBASE-SR4 transmission

40GBASE-SR4 transceivers use 4 x 10G channels to give an aggregate of 40G for parallel transmission up to 100m (OM3) or 150m (OM4). Using an MPO port, the QSFP+ 40G SR4 transceiver module uses cables with 8 fibres (4 independent transmit and receive lanes), which means one QSFP+ SR4 transceiver can connect to another 40G port or breakout to 4 x 10G ports using SFP+ 10G SR transceivers.

MTP® (MPO) patch cables can connect two QSFP+ SR4 transceivers or a 40G port to 4 x 10G ports using a QSFP+ to SFP+ breakout cable (MTP® to 4 x LC Duplex). For detailed information on 40G cabling infrastructure, see our M400 Series Base-8 fibre cabling page.

QSFP+ 40G SR4 transceivers can transmit 40Gbp/s up to 100m (OM3) or 150m (OM4) when cabled in accordance with recognised cabling standards.

EEPROM compatibility code

Having the correct compatibility coding programmed on to your third party optical transceiver will ensure that networking equipment that it is being used in will recognise the optic as an authorised and reputable product. Failure to ensure the correct code is loaded can result in continual non-approved hardware alarms being raised via the console or syslog messages or the optic not being authorised to work with the equipment.

All our optical transceivers are programmed and tested with a special compatibility code that is known as a vendor compatibility EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory).
